London Town

Covent Garden
Take a stroll through Covent Garden, where each street has a special story. Even though the fruits and vegetable stands of the Victorian era have now disappeared, you can still indulge yourself in antiques, unique gifts and fashion boutiques in the market. During the summer, you may also find street musicians and small bands of actors performing in and around the piazza.

With Tourcaster as your guide, you’ll learn the origin of the Garden as well as its theatrical history. You’ll get to explore the Actors’ Church, Royal Opera House and the Garrick Club, where writers such as Charles Dickens would mingle with composers like Sullivan and actors such as Charles Kemble.

The Changing of the Guards
Put on your walking shoes and follow the procession as you watch and learn about the Changing of the Guards. Nearly every day in the summer and every other day in the winter the Queen’s army marches on horseback from St. James’s Palace to Buckingham Palace for the guard change. Learn about the Royal residences and tradition of the guard ceremony. Pack yourself a picnic so that you can lounge in Green Park after the event.

The River Thames
Take a walk along London’s lively River Bank. Learn the history and legends of London Bridge. As you stroll along you’ll discover the Golden Hinde at Pickford’s Wharf. Here, you’ll find a replica of the ship in which Sir Francis Drake sailed around the world.

Along the way you’ll be able to visit the original and new sites of the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre as well as the renowned Tate Modern Museum. Other stops during the tour include the Clink Prison, which held heretics during medieval times, and Bear Gardens, which was the venue for a rather gory sport now banned!
